I, Dhammika Sasanayake, Secretary-General of Parliament, do hereby notify in terms of Section 17 of the Presidential Elections (Special Provisions) Act No. 2 of 1981 that the Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, Member of Parliament, has been declared elected by Parliament on Wednesday, the 20th of July 2022 as the Eighth Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in terms of Section 11 of the aforesaid Act.


Media Release - Foreign Minister meets with Chinese Ambassador

PeirisXiMinister of Foreign Affairs, Professor G.L. Peiris met with the Ambassador of China, Qi Zhenhong, on 30 June, 2022 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Following the exchange of pleasantries, Minister Peiris appreciated China’s continued assistance to Sri Lanka. The Foreign Minister also apprised the Ambassador of the current situation in the country and the shortage of fuel, food and pharmaceutical equipment which have adversely affected the economy of Sri Lanka. The Minister added that bilateral partners and international agencies are in regular discussions to address these challenges.

ForminSealDue to the prevailing situation in the country, the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will provide services to the public only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with effect from June 30, 2022 until July 10, 2022. The same working arrangements will also apply to the Regional Consular offices in Jaffna, Matara, Kandy, Trincomalee and Kurunagela will provide services on these days.
